AI-powered invoice processing for customs logistics

Customs logistics runs on invoices, and these were big: a single invoice could carry 300 line items. Processing one by hand meant someone reading the document, keying every line, and checking it, which took up to two days per invoice. The volume never stopped growing.

I designed and built the whole solution end to end as part of a consultancy engagement, from document intake and extraction to the app the operations team works in every day.

I built one solution on the Microsoft stack the company already ran. Azure AI Document Intelligence reads each invoice with OCR and pulls the line items out as structured data. Power Automate orchestrates the flow. A Power App gives the team a single place to review and confirm results instead of re-keying anything.

Everything sat on tooling they already licensed, so there was no new infrastructure to buy and nothing exotic for their team to run.

A 300-line invoice that used to take up to two days is now processed in fifteen minutes or less. The manual re-keying is gone, and the operations team works from structured, consistent data instead of retyping documents.
