Legacy desktop app
can't scale
React + Next.js
full rebuild
MySQL + Prisma
data layer
Modern web platform
accessible anywhere
Problem
A financial institution depended on a legacy desktop application. It kept the business running, but it could not scale, could not be accessed like a modern web product, and every year made it harder to maintain.
My role
Full-stack developer on the migration: frontend, backend, data layer, and internationalization.
Approach & tech
We rebuilt the application as a modern full-stack web app on React and Next.js with MySQL and Prisma on the data side, using shadcn/ui for a consistent interface and next-intl for internationalization from day one.
Migrating a financial system means the old behavior is the spec: the point was matching what the business relied on while removing the constraints of the desktop platform.
Result
The institution moved from a desktop-bound legacy tool to a scalable, faster web platform that its team can access anywhere and its developers can actually extend.
